TBWA\HAKUHODO today announced its 20th anniversary, marking two decades as one of Asia-Pacific's most transformative creative agencies. To commemorate the milestone, the agency is unveiling “Three Disruptions,” a strategic initiative designed to guide its next decade of growth under the driving slogan: “Disruption® for Meaningful Change.”

Established in 2006 as a joint venture between TBWA\Worldwide and Hakuhodo, the agency built its reputation by combining TBWA’s proprietary Disruption® methodology with Hakuhodo's deep understanding of human behavior (sei-katsu-sha Insight). Moving into its third decade, TBWA\HAKUHODO is stepping beyond traditional agency boundaries to drive business-level innovation and social impact.

A Starting Gun, Not a Victory Toast

“We have no intention of letting this 20-year milestone end in mere celebration,” said Wataru Uchida, Representative Director, President & CEO of TBWA\HAKUHODO. “Rather than resting on past accomplishments, we want to remain challengers who are unafraid of failure. Toward further disruption and creation, these ‘Three Disruptions’ define our path forward.

Co-signed by Chief Operating Officer Chris Iki and Chief Creative Officer Takahiro Hosoda, the executive vision establishes three core pillars for the agency’s next era:

  1. Global Scale | Taking 50+ Japanese Brands to the World Stage

Japan harbors extraordinary companies whose value remains unrecognized globally. Leveraging its refined Disruption® discipline and TBWA’s global network, TBWA\HAKUHODO commits to launching at least 50 global brands out of Japan by 2035—spanning large enterprises to emerging startups.

  1. Beyond Agency | Disrupting Businesses, Not Just Advertising

While taking pride in its advertising roots, the agency is expanding its scope. By transforming underlying business models, product design, and service experiences, TBWA\HAKUHODO aims to create work that naturally serves as its own best advertisement, while accelerating in-house venture development to implemental social innovation directly.

  1. AI x Craftsmanship | Elevating Human Creativity Through Technology

Viewing AI as far more than an efficiency tool, the agency is leveraging technology to break through traditional creative limits. By combining bold AI integration with deep human craftsmanship, TBWA\HAKUHODO aims to deliver the industry’s most resonant human experiences.

Driven by “Pirate Spirit”

This strategic vision is powered by a distinct internal culture famously summarized as: “Why join the navy when you can be a pirate?” Built on five core values—including Creativity Comes from Diversity, Uncommon Humanity, Good Enough is Not Enough, and Be Brave—this mindset has propelled TBWA\HAKUHODO to historic industry milestones. The agency was the first in Japan to win Advertising Age’s “International Agency of the Year” title in 2011, and has been named Campaign Asia-Pacific’s “Japan Creative Agency of the Year” 13 times.

Unveiling a Product-Centric Digital Experience

In alignment with the anniversary, TBWA\HAKUHODO has completely revamped its corporate website around its central ethos: “The Product (The Work) is Our Greatest Pride.”

The new platform offers an immersive view into the agency’s latest creative work, business transformation case studies, and career culture.
