Perhaps you\u2019ve noticed more rainbow colors everywhere?<br \/>\nIt is a time when people around the world celebrate diversity and show support for LGBTQIA+ rights and community. Various events, movements and campaigns take place, calling for change in order to create a society where people of all gender identities and sexual orientations can \u201cbe themselves,&#8221; with pride.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nIn celebration of Pride Month, we, TBWA\\HAKUHODO held a month-long internal event \u201cPRIDE MONTH &#8211; Thinking on Being Myself,\u201d to learn, think and discuss together about the LGBTQAI+ community, about diversity, and the courage to be true to yourself.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  \u300cPeace Pirates\u300d presents \u2013  PRIDE MONTH<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  Following \u201cGender Week\u201d in March, \u201cPRIDE MONTH\u201d was organized by Peace Pirates &#8211; a diversity promotion working group formed by voluntary members. <br \/>\nDivided into the three steps of \u201cKnowing, Understanding, and Taking Action\u201d, the goal of the event was for each individual to take action by learning, contemplating and understanding diversity, identity, and LGBTQIA+ through a variety of content, including Disruptor Series, training, discussions, and weekly letters.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"stories-img slope\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" data-pc=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1.-img_stories_sub_pc.png\" data-sp=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1.-img_stories_sub_sp.png\" data-hori=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1.-img_stories_sub_hz.png\" src=\"\" alt=\"PRIDE MONTH &#8211; Celebrating the Courage To Be True To Yourself\">\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  According to the post-event survey, about 95% answered that there was a \u201cchange in their awareness\u201d. <br \/>\nSome participants shared heartfelt comments with Peace Pirates saying, &#8220;Pride Month made me realize that I don&#8217;t have to be actually LGBTQ+ to talk and think about this topic,&#8221; or &#8220;I now feel closer and related to LGBTQ+ people &#8211; it\u2019s a huge change for me.&#8221;<br \/>\n <br \/>\nIn his message to all members, our COO Chris Iki expressed his thoughts on PRIDE MONTH as following: <br \/>\n\u201cPRIDE seemingly focuses on issues around LGBTQIA+, but at the core it\u2019s really about accepting and embracing \u201cdifferences\u201d across humans. It\u2019s OK to have different preferences in terms of lifestyles, sexual orientation, identity and beliefs. But, it\u2019s NOT OK to discriminate, degrade, exclude and alienate simply based on \u201cdifferences\u201d. If anything, this is the one thing I hope every one of you took away from the discussions and activities from this month.<br \/>\nWhile PRIDE MONTH may be celebrated only for a month, the notion of PRIDE is something that we should have in our hearts and minds throughout the year. I\u2019m an ally\u2026are you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  \u3010Contents of TBWA\\HAKUHODO \u201cPRIDE MONTH\u201d (\u203bsome are omitted)\u3011<\/h2>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  \uff1cKnowing\uff1e DEI Seminar &#8211; Let\u2019s talk about Diversity<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  In order to understand the themes of LGBTQIA+ and \u201cself identity\u201d that PRIDE MONTH focus on, we started off the month with a company-wide training session on DEI. With the highest participation rate among all sessions during the month, we talked about the importance of \u201cpsychological safe spaces\u201d in teams, and \u201cunconscious bias\u201d in our daily life through examples from advertising.<br \/>\nParticipants&#8217; comments include: &#8220;I was able to understand clearly that DEI is not an incidental condition, but a must,&#8221; and \u201cIt was a reminder to myself that mutual understanding is the most important thing in a team.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  \uff1cUnderstanding\uff1eDisruptor Series<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"stories-img slope\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" data-pc=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2.-img_stories_sub_pc.png\" data-sp=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2.-img_stories_sub_sp.png\" data-hori=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2.-img_stories_sub_hz.png\" src=\"\" alt=\"PRIDE MONTH &#8211; Celebrating the Courage To Be True To Yourself\">\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  Guest: Makeup artist, buddhist monk KODO NISHIMURA<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  Theme: \u201cMyself &#038; Creativity\u201d<br \/>\n<br \/>\nKodo Nishimura, with his many faces as a makeup artist, monk, and LGBTQ+ activist, shared his journey to finding his own identity. In his life, Kodo says that \u201cgetting information\u201d, \u201cmeeting people&#8221;, and \u201cgoing to various places\u201d were the three key ways to find and liberate his true self. <br \/>\nIn the latter half of the talk session, he talked about what he tries to pay attention to on a daily basis in order to be creative, and his thoughts on advertisements that encourage people, giving us an opportunity to rethink the importance of inclusive and positive messaging.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  Guest: NPO TOKYO RAINBOW PRIDE Advisor SHINYA YAMAGATA<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  Theme: \u201cThe Growth of Rainbow Pride Parade &#8211; Becoming a PRIDE Branding Platform\u201d<br \/>\n<br \/>\nShinya Yamagata, who was one of the founding members of \u201cTokyo Rainbow Pride\u201d and currently serves as an advisor of NPO Tokyo Rainbow Pride, has grown Tokyo Rainbow Pride from a small event to a huge platform of corporate sponsorships.<br \/>\nFrom his story we could deepen our understanding of the importance of creativity in changing people\u2019s perspective and moving society forward by being &#8220;ally&#8221; who protect the psychological safety of minority people.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"stories-detail slope fw-m-m sentence\">\n  \uff1cTaking Action\uff1e Discussion sessions <\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"stories-img slope\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" data-pc=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3.-img_stories_sub_pc.png\" data-sp=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3.img_stories_sub_sp.png\" data-hori=\"\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3.-img_stories_sub_hz.png\" src=\"\" alt=\"PRIDE MONTH &#8211; Celebrating the Courage To Be True To Yourself\">\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  Theme\uff1aTH Library \u00d7 Peace Pirates Live!\u300cLGBTQIA+C \u30fc Books to Read in an Age of Diversity!\u300d<br \/>\n<br \/>\nTH Library, a group of book-loving TBWA\\HAKUHODO members and Peace Pirates, a group dedicated to promoting diversity, collaborated for a \u201cbook club\u201d session introducing books and culture that help people to learn and think about LGBTQIA+ and diversity!<br \/>\nIn the session five guests from various departments recommended a book that they would like to read in this age of diversity. We discussed LGBTQIA+ from the different perspectives of the guests, including music, manga, history, fashion, or Netflix contents.<br \/>\n <br \/>\nParticipants commented, &#8220;It was interesting to see how each person&#8217;s &#8220;likes&#8221; were the entry point to the diversity discussion,&#8221; &#8220;It was very stimulating to see so many different people delve into a certain issue through different filters,&#8221; and &#8220;I got to know so many books that I would not have discovered on my own &#8211; so excited to flex my mind and try new books.\u201d<br \/>\n==<br \/>\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"stories-detail slope fw-l-l sentence\">\n  Advertising is something that is seen by so many people and has the power to change people\u2019s perspectives. That is why advertising agencies are required to know and understand that there are various &#8220;differences&#8221; and to take action.
